Review: SOUL S-TRACK, S-TRON – "Modern Design, Easy to Use, Great Sound, and Affordable Prices"

SOUL, a wireless headphone brand, has been a notable presence in the Thai market for a while now, consistently releasing new products. Recently, they introduced three new wireless headphones towards the end of last year. Two of these models are true wireless headphones that boast a signature sound profile unique to SOUL, yet come at an affordable price.

The two wireless headphones in question are the SOUL S-TRACK, priced at 990 THB, available in black, blue, and white, and the SOUL S-TRON, priced at 1,490 THB. Both models feature Bluetooth 5.3 wireless connectivity and are designed with an IPX4 water resistance rating. The battery life of these headphones lasts over 6 hours on a single charge, and when used with the charging case, total usage time extends to more than 24 hours.

Features and Design

The SOUL S-TRACK is a compact and lightweight wireless headphone, weighing just 3.5 grams per earbud. It boasts Bluetooth 5.3 (AAC Codec) connectivity, which is currently one of the most advanced wireless technologies available.

The battery in the SOUL S-TRACK allows for up to 6 hours of use per charge. The cubic-shaped charging case can recharge the headphones up to 3.5 times, providing a total of up to 24 hours of combined usage. The case charges via a USB-C port.

On the other hand, the SOUL S-TRON is another true wireless headphone model, designed with a modern, sleek aesthetic and standout LED lighting that gives it a futuristic feel. Like the S-TRACK, it uses Bluetooth 5.3 (AAC Codec) connectivity but also supports low latency connection (Entertainment Mode), reducing audio delay to just 65ms, which is ideal for gaming or watching videos.

The SOUL S-TRON headphones can provide up to 8 hours of use per charge, and when paired with the charging case, the total usage time extends to 36 hours. The charging case also supports fast charging via USB-C.

Both the S-TRACK and S-TRON feature touch-sensitive controls, allowing users to manage playback, answer or end calls, and adjust the volume with ease. The headphones come with a standard package that includes a charging case, three sizes of silicone ear tips, and a USB-A to USB-C charging cable. Additionally, the S-TRON model comes with a metal hook for easy attachment to a bag.

Usage Experience

As with other wireless headphone reviews, we began by charging the charging case. For the SOUL S-TRACK, the charging case displays a red blinking light while charging and turns solid red when fully charged.

The SOUL S-TRON charging case, on the other hand, features three small white LED indicators on the front to show the battery level. This is particularly convenient when you need to check the power status. The translucent lid of the case also allows you to see which earbud is charging.

The SOUL S-TRON, which boasts the ‘Glow On The Go’ tagline, features glowing blue lights inside the charging case that animate when the case is opened. This design seems inspired by the visual aesthetics of the sci-fi action movie Tron: Legacy, with colors and lighting that resemble the movie’s theme.

During use, the glowing lights activate whenever the charging case lid is opened, giving the headphones a dynamic, interactive feel. This makes them visually striking and enjoyable to use, enhancing the overall experience for users.

For pairing, both SOUL models feature Auto Pairing, so when removed from the charging case, they automatically enter pairing mode. The headphones can only connect to one device at a time, and switching between devices requires disconnecting from the previous one.

The touch controls on the S-TRACK are similar to the S-TRON, with an added function on the left earbud for activating Entertainment Mode on the S-TRON.

Both models can be used independently in either ear. The microphone quality for calls or virtual assistant commands is adequate, and although there is no active noise cancellation, the right size of silicone tips effectively blocks out a fair amount of ambient noise.

Both headphones feature voice prompts to confirm the status and left/right earbud orientation, which is particularly helpful for the S-TRACK, as both earbuds are identical in shape. The connection speed is not lightning-fast, but it is stable.

Sound Quality

Both the SOUL S-TRACK and S-TRON use dynamic 6mm drivers, with nearly identical technical specifications. The overall sound is rich and easy to listen to, with a broad soundstage and clear midrange that does not sound muffled or lost.

The bass is notably strong, delivering a solid and deep sound. Whether listening to pop, pop-rock, or rock-and-roll music, the sound signature is well-suited to these genres, providing an enjoyable listening experience. There were times when we felt like cranking up the volume for even more excitement.

For instance, while streaming The Beatles’ 1 (Remastered) album on TIDAL, which features a variety of tempos and rhythms, the SOUL S-TRACK was able to deliver an engaging listening experience throughout the entire album, despite its low price point.

The SOUL S-TRON, which shares the same DNA, produces a more focused and refined sound. The bass is tighter and more impactful, delivering a livelier overall tone with a slightly wider soundstage. Listening to fast-paced songs like Day Tripper is a fun, energetic experience that makes you want to move along with the rhythm.

When testing with movies or streaming series, both models performed beyond expectations for their price, particularly with music-focused films like Bohemian Rhapsody or A Star is Born (2018), as well as action-packed sci-fi films, with the S-TRON excelling in these genres.

Who Are the SOUL S-TRACK and S-TRON For?

The new wireless headphones from SOUL are clearly designed for entertainment use. They are not meant to be high-fidelity, monitor-style headphones with an emphasis on neutrality or revealing every tiny detail.

At under 1,000 THB, the SOUL S-TRACK is a great value, making it an ideal first wireless headphone for those who have never used this type of product before or those who have been disappointed by similarly priced alternatives. If you give them a try, you might find them surprisingly enjoyable.

For those willing to spend a little more, the SOUL S-TRON offers superior features, including better sound quality, longer battery life, and a more visually striking design that stands out from typical wireless headphones. It is undoubtedly a Best Buy in this price range.
